Irish Fundraising Event

30/05/2009

A Magnificent fundraising event was held on Saturday 30 May at Lake Park, Lough Dan, County Wicklow to launch the Warrior Programme in Ireland hosted by Stephen Dalton, John Boorman and Caroline & Eva Hamilton.

160 invited guests began the day with a magical walk, led by John Boorman, retracing the path of his film Excalibur. The sun shone down on everyone, as they walked for two hours through the stunning landscape. The walk culminated with drinks by Lough Dan followed by an Arthurian themed lunch at Lake Park. Chairman Anthony Palmer and Eva Hamilton introduced the concept of the Warrior Programme and 4 'warriors', Rob, Alan, Peter and Ulisses, spoke of the impact of the Warrior Programme has had on their lives.

Katrine Boorman, trustee, was a fabulous auctioneer for the afternoon encouraging everyone to participate for the prizes which included a day's hunting, lunch for six at Leixlip Castle, and a five-day stay in a luxurious Riad in Marrakech.

Dancing commenced to music provided by the Wild Colonial Boys and Paddy Maloney of the Chieftains.

The event raised almost 30,000 Euros enabling the Warrior Programme to begin the task of reconnecting the disconnected in Ireland in early 2010.
