Participant case studies

We are about helping real people - our results are not just mere statistics, and so here we illustrate briefly a couple of examples showing how the Programme has worked for participants. We are grateful to all who have undertaken the Programme and wish them every success in the future. A special thanks to those mentioned here.

2007 Participants

    Jacqui

    Background
For over 25 years, Jacqui has battled with depression and alcoholism and has attempted suicide 4 times.

    4 months later
Since joining the Warrior Programme, for the first time in her life, Jacqui is feeling in control and is enjoying living rather than just existing. Her drinking is now under control and she is working as a volunteer for our organization.

    Alison

    Background
Alison, single and in her 40’s, was hospitalized in 2007 suffering from psychosis. She has also suffered from Fibromyalgia for 3 years.

    4 months later
Four months after joining the Programme she is leading a happy and healthy life free from pain.

2006 Participants

    Michael

    Background
Michael suffered a breakdown of his relationship, became addicted to class ‘A’ drugs and within months he became homeless. He found several jobs through ‘Ready For Work’ , but due to his addiction he could not hold any of them.

    17 Months later
Having participated in the Warrior Programme, Michael has been clean for 17 months and is now training as a counselor and volunteering part time for the Warrior Charity.

    Euan

Having had a ‘privileged’ up bringing, Euan spent much of his initial working life playing polo professionally, before moving into the Restaurant business in London. Subsequently, he trained to become a tree surgeon and started his own business 10 years ago. Tragically he lost his brother and best friend through suicide, which partly accounts for Euan’s drinking and drug use becoming out of control during the last 10 years. He was diagnosed with depression and has battled for 10 years with addiction problems, from which he had never been able to escape until he took part in the pilot of the Warrior Programme. He has now been dry and clean for 7 months, and for the first time he is enjoying his life and he now feels totally different. He is currently living back in Cornwall, working part-time training horses and is also training himself to be a future Warrior instructor.

    Ulisses

Raised in Cape Verde, Ulisses initially set up his own printing business. At the age of 32 he came to London to manage a small chain of restaurants, it was at this time that he started playing with drugs, it was not long before his dependancy on heroin and cocaine cost him his job. Despite becoming homeless and losing everything, he managed to turn himself around and took up several challenging assignments including work at Allen & Overy, Barclays Bank, KPMG and the Carphone Warehouse. Despite his progress, Ulisses felt a huge void in himself and found himself falling back into the drugs habit in order for him to have courage to face the world. This soon ate into him, and after an overdose and near death experience, he fortunately found the Warrior Programme. The new perspective he gained allowed him to totally transform his life; he is now clean for 7 months and is currently rebuilding himself, and is studying IT and Peer advocacy at College. He is also studying to be a Warrior practitioner and is very excited about the future.
